Yoga In Alentejo – for hikers and wild ones

Looking for Yoga in Alentejo? You’re in the right place — just not the usual one. This isn’t a yoga studio with walls. FlowAway brings live, online yoga designed for people on the move – be it hikers, campers, nomads.

Provided by yoga teachers that host their sessions from anywhere. Most of our yoga hosts are actually located close to where you book your yoga session – you might join them physically on the mat somewhere along your hike.

Why Yoga For Hikers?

Long trails. Heavy backpacks. Tight hips. That’s why we created yoga for hikers — short, practical online live sessions – facilitated via Zoom – that help reset after a day outside.

It’s gentle, it’s real, and it’s made for the kind of people who roll out their mat next to a tent or in the corner of a hostel dorm.

No Studio? No Problem. 🌍

Our sessions are small, personal, and streamed live. Whether you’re near the coast, deep inland, or somewhere in between, you can stretch out, breathe deep, and reconnect.

Hiked All Day? Here’s 5 moves you can do now.

1. Child’s Pose

Child’s pose is a calming yoga stretch that stretches the back, hips, and thighs. It’s a great way to reduce stress and promote relaxation. For hikers, it helps to relieve tension in the lower back and can help prevent injuries.

Kneel on the floor or yoga mat with your feet together. Sit back on your heels – you can place a blanket under your knees, or a pillow under your buttocks. Spread your knees wide or keep them together. Lean forward, and lower your chest towards your thighs and place your forehead on the floor. Relax.

2. Cat/Cow Pose

After a long day hiking – and carrying a backpack – it’s key to re-connect back with your spine, and give it a soft massage. Cat/Cow movements help relief tension around your spine and hip. Get on your forearms and knees.

Inhale deeply while curving your lower back down, bringing your head up, tilting your pelvis up like a “cow.” Exhale deeply and bring your abdomen in, arching your spine and bringing your head and pelvis down like a “cat.” Repeat several times.

3. Low Lunge

Your hip flexors work hard during a hike – they help lift your legs with every step. In the Low Lunge position, you give them a beautiful stretch.

Start on all fours, step one foot forward between your hands, and then lower your back knee to the ground. Lift your torso and rest your hands on your front thigh or bring your arms overhead, or next to your body. Hold for several breaths, then repeat on the other side

4. Half Split

Don’t feel like you have to perform an actual split – Half Split is actually a super easy and powerful position to give your hamstrings a niiiice stretch

Start in a low lunge with one knee and foot resting on the floor. Extend the other leg straight out to the side, keeping the toes pointed forward and foot flexed. Slowly shift your hips back, hinging forward at your hips, and reach towards your extended leg. Hold the stretch and breathe deeply, feeling the stretch in your hamstring and inner thigh.

5. Sit on your heels

Release tension in your ankles and take some restful breaths in kneeling position. Consider sitting on a pillow or block to avoid pain in your knees.

Kneel on the floor, a block, pillow, or similar. The front of your lower legs and ankles are stretched. Focus on breathing out, as much as you do on breathing in. Enjoy.
