What is a harmonium workshop? A harmonium workshop is a hands-on introduction to the Indian harmonium – a small, portable keyboard instrument powered by bellows that's widely used in yoga, kirtan, and mantra chanting. In Laura's Harmonium Flow workshop, you learn the basics of playing the instrument while combining it with breathwork, mantra, and yoga – no musical experience required.
Do I need any musical experience to join? Not at all. Laura's workshop is designed for complete beginners. You'll start with simple chords and basic melodies, learning to play and sing at the same time. The harmonium is one of the most accessible instruments to pick up – if you can press a key and pump the bellows, you're already playing.
What is mantra yoga? Mantra yoga uses the repetition of sacred sounds, words, or phrases – often in Sanskrit – to calm the mind and create a meditative state. When combined with harmonium, the practice becomes a full-body experience: you feel the vibration of the instrument and your own voice, which deepens the sense of presence and connection. Laura weaves mantra into her yoga teaching as a core element, not just an add-on.
What happens in a kirtan or mantra circle? Kirtan is a call-and-response style of group chanting rooted in the Bhakti yoga tradition. Laura leads the mantra and plays harmonium, and the group repeats after her. No one is performing – it's a shared, low-pressure experience. You don't need to know the words in advance or be a confident singer. Many people describe it as deeply relaxing and surprisingly emotional.
